ditching the dumping ground

Are you struggling to keep your entranceways decluttered with kids? Shoes, backpacks and jackets getting flung everywhere when they come in and out of school?

Here are six easy ways to ditch the dumping ground.

1. Start With a Declutter

First and foremost is to declutter the area and go through everyone’s shoes, jackets and bags to see what fits and gets worn. Then consign or donate the rest.

2. USE THE GARAGE DOOR AS AN ENTRY

The number one thing we can recommend and love to do is use the garage door for your entrance point. Store all of your family’s shoes here or in the mud room. Also, invest in 2-4 shoe racks to keep the shoes and boots contained. Hang all your coats and backpacks in the mud room or laundry room.

3. personalized bins and baskets

Bins or baskets labelled for each family member are also a significant investment so they can store hats and gloves or any personal items that easily get misplaced.

4. EVERYTHING SHOULD HAVE A SPOT

Have a designated spot for your keys or wallet/purse so that every time you come home, it gets put in the same place, and you never have to search for lost keys. Baskets, hooks or beautiful decor pieces are great for this!

5. ESSENTIALS AT A REACH

We’re not sure what school will look like this year, but in the last couple of years, we suggested a cute basket for masks and extra sanitizer right by the door for easy access.

6. DAILY TASKS FOR THE LITTLES

In our home, the daily task for one of the littles is if there are shoes that come in at the front door, to put them away in the garage each night and straighten up the entrance way. Easy peasy!
