top ten deep cleaning hacks

Here in beautiful British Columbia, the sun is finally making an appearance, and the last place you want to be is indoors…cleaning! Before Summer is FULL SWING, we want to help you deep clean your home so that you can focus on the important things (…like margaritas on the patios).

We’ve put our minds together to share our Top Ten Deep Cleaning Hacks. So let’s get to it….

#1 - BLINDS

When it comes to blinds, we all know no one wants to do them; they are a tedious job!  If you vacuum them first with a bristle attachment, it will suck up all the heavy dust first, making wiping them down much easier. Then wash and dry, and onto the next one, blinds take time so give yourself a day.

#2 - CLEANING FANS

Cleaning those ceiling fans usually doesn’t happen often enough because they can be a pain to get to and the last thing that you’re thinking about doing. They tend to build up a lot of dust, and when you clean them, they make a huge mess.

We suggest using an old pillowcase and putting it around each blade and pulling back toward you, trapping all dust inside and then wiping clean with warm soapy water.

#3 - KITCHEN CABINETS

Kitchen cabinets can be a bit of a chore when it comes to cooking grease. We like using Dawn to cut through that grease fast and easily. Fill up your sink with hot water and add a couple of squirts of Dawn liquid soap.  Dawn power wash is also great to squirt on and wipe off with a wet cloth.

#4 - BASEBOARDS AND WALLS

If your walls and baseboards aren’t that bad but need a touch-up and you’re short on time, then try mopping them with clean hot soapy water.  We highly recommend Vileda mops; the mop heads come off and are machine washable.

#5 - STEAM MICROWAVE

If your microwave is full of stuck-on food and grease, then add a bowl of 1 cup water and 1/4 vinegar and turn on for a minute and let steam all that harden food away. Then simply wipe clean with a wet cloth and dry.

#6 - STINKY SINKS

Is your kitchen sink letting off some foul odours that can’t be ignored? We got you! Pour 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup salt and 1 cup of vinegar down your sink, followed by a full kettle of hot water.

#7 - REFRESH CARPETS

If you have pets or kids and need to freshen up stale or smelly carpets, sprinkle on baking soda mixed with essential oils and let sit for an hour, then vacuum up! The baking soda will lift odours and neutralize and the essential oils will leave it smelling oh-so clean.

#8 - DOORMATS

If you keep your outside door mat vacuumed or swept as well as the inside one then you're not going to be tracking in as much outside dirt and debris.

#9 - AIR FILTER

Remember to change your furnace filters every 3 months for better air quality and less dusting!! Yay!

#10 - START HIGH

When it comes to cleaning, we always say the rule of thumb is to start at the top and work your way down. Dust and debris fall and settles.  The last thing to clean is always the floors
